Details

After landing in Kathmandu, we take a cab through the city’s maze of streets to our long-established hotel. Here we recover from the exertions of the flight and can get a first impression of the lively capital on a stroll through the city. To get used to the foreign culture and climate, we visit the famous Bhouda Stupa – the most important place for the many Tibetans living in Kathmandu. The following day in Kathmandu, we visit Durbour Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and enjoy a fantastic view of the city from Swayambunath Temple. The next day we take the plane to Nepalgunji, a town already off the beaten tourist track. We spend the night there in a mid-range hotel, from where we fly to Juphal very early the next day on a Twinotter. The view of the mountains is a pure experience. From Juphal at 2,470 m, we then continue on foot over the next 18 days in one of the loneliest, most pristine and strongly Tibetan-influenced dream landscapes: we set up our first camp in Dunai and meet the Nepalese accompanying team. In three days along rivers, through gorges, past waterfalls and through cedar forests, we reach the village of Phoksundo on the lake of the same name, a highlight of our trekking tour. We stay here for two nights to acclimatize and soak up the unique atmosphere of the area. The old Bon monastery on the lake takes us back in time. Along the western shore of Poksundo Lake we reach Upper Dolpo and continue our ascent via Nagdalo La 5,350 m to Shey Gompa 4,343 m, where we set up camp near the old gompa. In Shey Gompa – the spiritual center of Dolpo – we take a rest day and have the opportunity to visit the old Tsakhang mountain monastery. The next day we tackle our second pass – Shey La 5,094 m – and spend the night at the Namgung monastery at 4,400 m. In Saldang, the Tibetan border is already within our grasp. At Jyanta La 5,220 m we cross our third and last high pass and reach Dho Tarap, another larger village with some infrastructure. We return to Dunai in three days along a beautiful river landscape and our challenging trekking tour comes full circle. Here we celebrate unforgettable days and say goodbye to our Nepalese companions as we fly back to Kathmandu and enjoy the colorful hustle and bustle of Nepal’s capital one last time.

We will be happy to provide you with details of the tour on request.

This challenging trekking tour takes you to altitudes of up to 5350 m. The tour is designed to give you enough time to acclimatize to the altitude, which is crucial for success on a trekking tour. You should be free from giddiness and sure-footed for this tour. You can move independently and safely on grassy slopes, scree fields and moraine debris. There are no technical difficulties. We spend several days at altitudes above 4,000 m. This is the challenge that needs to be mastered with a good walking pace and our professional group guide. It makes a difference whether you are walking on the flat or uphill. You must be able to carry your daypack yourself for the entire tour. The walking time is up to 7 hours and you cover up to 1300 meters of ascent or descent. If you cross a pass, the walking time can be extended to 8 hours depending on the conditions. You should therefore prepare yourself well for the trek.

This impressive, special trekking tour requires an interest in the country and the culture, which is foreign to us, as well as tolerance, even under simple conditions. The ability to work in a team is just as much a part of tent trekking as the desire and joy of hiking and being out in nature.
