Details
After arrival and transfer to our hotel, we visit the temples in Kathmandu and the famous stupa of Boudhanath, the destination of Buddhist pilgrims. Early the next morning, we take the jeep to Phaplu, the starting point of our trekking expedition. Mani walls, chortens and prayer flags, visible signs of living Buddhism, appear at regular intervals along the way and accompany our ascent up to the Khare mountain pasture, the last settlement before our ascent to the summit. Up to this point we stay overnight in lodges. After a day of acclimatization, we begin our ascent to Mera La 5,400 m and spend the first night in a tent. On the summit day we hike through an impressive glacier world to the summit. Here we are rewarded with fantastic views of the Himalayan giants. Built-in reserve days increase the chances of summit success. The way back takes us over a final pass down to Lukla at 2,800 m. From there, a panoramic flight takes us back to Kathmandu.
We will be happy to provide you with details of the tour on request.
This challenging trekking tour takes you to altitudes of up to 6,461 m. The tour is designed to give you enough time to acclimatize to the altitude, which is crucial for success on this trekking tour. The ascent to the summit is not technically difficult. However, it requires a very good level of fitness, a head for heights and surefootedness in pathless firn and scree terrain, which can also be snow-covered and icy. Summit aspirants should be familiar with the use of ice axes and crampons. Short steep sections on the ascent to the summit can have a gradient of up to 40° – they are secured by the guide. You must be able to carry your daypack yourself for the entire tour. The daily walking times are between 4-7 hours and you will cover up to 1,300 meters of ascent and 1,600 meters of descent. On the day of the summit ascent, we are on the move for up to 10 hours. The overnight stays in tents at altitudes of up to 5,800 m and the summit ascent require adequate equipment, fitness and self-discipline. You should therefore prepare yourself well for the trek.
